Description The course is concerned to provide a thorough insight into mythological compositions of the ancient Near East. Particular myths will be divided into cultural areas. Emphasis will be placed on the particular story lines, demeanor of gods and connection between them. Analysis and interpretation of the compositions will be done mainly in the historical and socio-cultural context. At the end the parallel mythological motifs will be pointed out. After completing the course student will be able to: recognize the mythology of the ancient Near East, ie. be familiar with an important element of the local religious; understand the common line and interconnection of several religious and mythological themes; orientate himself in various mythological areas of the ancient Near East.
