Description The research on community quality of life is currently becoming trendy within range of sciences, including the geography as well. Because of its multidimensional nature, the complex methodological instruments are required to study external factors, influencing individual quality of life, and their subjective perception. This fact is more relevant in the research on community quality of life which can be conceptualised with socio-geographic approach. The study characterises research design that was applied in the research on quality of life in the selected suburban localities in the hinterland of Olomouc and Prostějov. Based on specific quality of life conceptualisation the methodology was suggested to describe and interpret socio-spatial relations in the selected municipalities. That is why qualitative methods (semi-structured interviews, observations, mental mapping...) are used in our case study research, whereas paying attention to their description and particularly methodological procedure. At the end the applicability of qualitative approach to quality of life research in various geographical areas is discussed.
