Description Purpose Diagnostics of factors affecting sports performance is an essential part of the training process. Individual sports require different levels of these predispositions with regard to the structure of the demand. Given that the development of world tennis is heading more and more towards a stronger, faster and generally more demanding style of game, the systematic, regular and long-term diagnosis has currently a growing importance. The research is based on the principles of the retrospective study that focuses on analysis of their results achieved in the test battery TENDIAG1. The main objective of the study was to assess the relationship between age, level of somatic and motoric performance predispositions and players performance of selected Czech elite junior tennis players based on long-term monitoring. Methods In terms of research methodology, there were three types of research used. Research of the status, where the characteristics of specified group (level of performance predispositions) are measured. Then a case study with elements of correlation study focused on the development of somatic and motoric performance predispositions of young tennis players and developmental study examining changes in the level of performance predispositions during the time. Research data were obtained by testing in years 1998-2005 in the test battery TENDIAG1. The criterion for selection was the ranking in this period. The results were processed in the computer programs Excel and STATISTICA. Results There is a natural growth observed by somatic characteristics that is consistent with ontogenetic development, similar process (with individual difference) was detected in the motoric characteristics. The evaluation of the relationship between ranking and total score of the test battery players caused expected low and insignificant level of statistics correlation (r = 0.03 to r = 0.42). Conclusions There was a high level of performance predispositions observed by all players, which corresponds to their high tennis performance and ranking. Due to the complex nature of sport performance in tennis the statistical dependence between ranking and results in the test battery was not proved.
