Description "Weise Frau", Heilsräthin", "Bewahrerin der uralten Weisheit", - with these and similar designations glorified Guido List, an important figure in the history ofthe so called völkisch movement in the last decades of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, the (German) women. With this image, he followed the tradition which began with the specific perception of Tacitus Germania by Jakob Grimm in his famous book "Deutsche Mythologie". Guido List took over Grimms propositions and developed them according to the propositions of the conservative völkisch movement and his own distinctive ideology. This article analyses Lists strategies to make these different propositions compatible. Another aspect of that kind of gloryfying German women is an attempt to utilize the witch-processes against the Catholic church. With this attempt, Lists ideology represents part of an important tendency which culminated in the Nazi-ideology.
