Description The realization of the nutritional needs during the exercise is one of the limiting factors in endurance performance. The aim of the case study is to describe the nutritional support during the swimming marathon at 57 km. The amount of energy consumed (14 000 kJ), the various forms and methods of carbohydrates administration (total 740 g, 85.7 g / h) is consistent not only with current theoretical knowledge, but also corresponds with the actual needs of an athlete during endurance exercise. Considering an active diuresis, the fluid intake (6700-7000 ml) and corresponding rehydration strategy during the race might be considered sufficient. Open water swimming events require precise nutritional regime that optimizes performance. Not only an adequate nutritional support, but also a professional technical support and accompaniment during the race are of great importance. The work demonstrates the need for a specific nutritional preparation for the open water swimming race. Furthermore it strengthens an importance of the pre-race prepared nutrition plan and its compliance during the race.
