Description The concept of innovation and knowledge economy is more and more popular in modern theories of regional development. After an economic crisis states and regions are looking for new ways to facilitate their economic growth. Knowledge economy which lays stress on human capital, innovation and research and development could be a suitable solution. The national or regional government can use innovation policy instruments to initiate formation of an innovation system. Innovation policy instruments are integrated in many areas of an economy and the government should pay attention on making a functional instrument mix which would be suitable for individual conditions of certain region.Innovation vouchers are a group of innovation policy instruments which are supposed to help with public – private partnership. Universities and research organization are creating tacit knowledge and a direct contact with firms is the only way to commercialize the knowledge in private sector. This paper is showing how the innovation vouchers are used in Czech Republic. There are some differences among regions in Czech Republic and because of that there are also small differences in approaches to innovation vouchers. This paper is summarizing and comparing them.
