Description Respect and protection of human rights is irreplaceable in palliative care. Most important in this field is the right to life, the right to self-determination and the right to a dignified death. Seemingly, some human rights in this area find themselves in mutual contradiction and excludes. In addition, there are many factors that threaten these rights. Individual states have to offer their adequate protection. Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Charter of Rights of the Dying are the basic guidelines for tackling this task. How the Czech law coped with this challenge, where are the gaps, and if the solutions are complete and satisfactory leads to the discussion.
