Description People overestimate the ability of others to recognize their own feelings. This phenomenon is called the illusion of transparency. People also overestimate the interest of others in their own behavior. This phenomenon is called a spotlight effect. These two effects together limit a person's life and make superfluous stress. Moreover, it was shown that knowledge of these effects reduces stress and objectively improves performance.
