Description The optimal number of the nursing staff, including the qualifying representation, is necessary for the high quality nursing care. There are many variables in the quantification process of the nursing burden. The current activities concentrate on the creation of complex data related to the nursing activities in the individual medical fields. In the research, objectified nursing burden was detected in 3929 patients of specialized clinic. Moreover, the number of staff, who was involved in the nursing care, was studied. The fundamental result of the analysis is the objectification of the nursing workload, including the determination of the time required for the realization of special and basic nursing care, the assessment of the other parameters of the nursing burden and particularly the establishment of the optimal staffing in hematooncology. The time required for treating 1 patient in 24 hours is within 250 min. The optimal number of the nursing staff job is 1,2 per bed. To determine the adequate qualifying representation of the nursing staff it is possible to use relative representation of the basic and specialized nursing care 10, 7 % : 89, 3 %. Although the presented data reflect upon the specific situation of the given workplace, it is possible to apply them in other workplaces with the same medical specialization, too.
