Citation
Description The paper deals with problems which arose during the preparation of a critical edition of Latin herbarium by Cristannus of Prachatice († 1439), which is preserved only in manuscripts. Herbarium is not only an important source for the history of medicine, pharmacy and botany in Czech lands in the Middle Ages, but it also provides a lot of stimuli to fields of studies connected to language and literature. The alphabetic order of lemmas made it easy to add new medicines; therefore, no two copies (out of 19 preserved ones) contain identical constitution or order of lemmas. Besides two basic redactions it is possible to distinguish a lot of smaller sub-redactions. That is why editors still find it very difficult to approach the text properly.
