Description Multiple sclerosis patients often suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms. Dysphagia and defecation problems (mostly constipation) are common and disturb significantly the quality of life. Chronic gastrointestional complaints stimulate the development of malnutrition. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy should be considered in patients with long term feeding problems. Many drugs used for multiple sclerosis treatment (especially interferons) may be harmful to digestive organs and liver. Review of gastrointestinal symptoms a their management in multiple sclerosis patients is presented in this chapter.
