| Description | The article analyses the position of Belinsky at the beginning of his career as a literary critic. The study of the text of his programmatic essay "Literary Reveries" (Literaturnye mechtania) shows that his position was in many ways inconsistent and showed Belinsky's effort to reflect the point of view of raznochintsy intelligentsia in the process to push ahead their aims against the aristocracy; he also does not consider the lowest stratum of people as the bearer of Russian culture. He also tries to deny the positive influence of western culture on the Russian one. |
