Description Aim: The objectives of the study was to ensure: Exist foreign national registries for the incidence and prevalence of pressure ulcers (PU) in abroad? What kind of data are collected? What is the minimal data set for accurate incidence evaluation of PU? Is it possible to share data on the same basis internationally? Method: A cross section descriptive survey design (one-stage Delphi survey) as a follow up of the literature overview. International web-based survey of expert opinion - experts in wound care (representatives of EWMA and EPUAP cooperating organization). Results/Discussion: Survey covering all the countries with collaborating wound management organizations of EWMA (37 countries) and EPUAP (14 countries). From EWMA cooperation organisation 62 and 21 person as EPUAP representatives was interviewed. In total 6 from EWMA and 10 from EPUAP representatives responded (response rate 27%). Two additional countries answered (contacted by NPUAP) Australia and USA. Majority of respondents stated that they do not have national registry for PU even they are collecting very similar data on local level. Most common monitored details are grade, size and location of ulcers (different methodology). Conclusion: The monitored parameters concerning the PU incidence and prevalence varies not only internationally but also on national level. Actually it is impossible to compare incidence of PU internationally. We suggest to promote international collaboration among researchers and clinicians who are willing to prepare registration systems for PU and share data.
