Description The article introduces contemporary approaches towards holistic education in the USA, Singapore, Taiwan and partially in other countries. It focuses on possible inspiring impulses for tertiary level education of pedagogues in the Czech Republic. Even though the means and the goals of holistic education vary around the world, all the approaches strive to develop the full potential of every individual. Holistic education itself is an eclectic and inclusive approach which absorbs all the impulses coming from various educational (and also philosophical and spiritual) schools and thus may be beneficial to any individual. Ideological roots of this approach may be found in the thoughts of R. W. Emerson, J. Dewey, M. Buber and others. Holistic approaches take into consideration all aspects of one´s individuality which is fundamentally connected with the environment and therefore no one should be uprooted from it. A pedagogue who has received high quality education and also an insight into the realm of the cognitive, social, aesthetic, spiritual, physical and emotional spheres will more likely be open to new ideas, approaches and experience. Such a pedagogue will probably more easily transform these to suit his or her needs. He or she might also develop creativity and innovative ways of dealing with problems and he or she shall not be afraid of entering a true dialogue-relationship with other cultures and people. Generally, holistic educational programmes will successfully develop any person if they manage to incorporate the whole – body, mind and spirit. Such a goal may be reached in many ways; some, such as experiential education and its methods being highly suitable. The principles of holistic education are easily transferable to educational processes. The techniques of meditation and attentive silence might be particularly interesting in the context of the Czech Republic.
