Using examples of parental ethnotheories of childhood among selected social groups living in the Czech Republic (socially excluded Roma, Vietnamese immigrants, unschoolers), the text shows how the ideas about who is a child and what is his/her way to adulthood influence the choice of education strategies and what tensions emerge in interaction of various conceptions of childhood.
