Description Use of combination therapy of hypertension is common in clinical practice. Its main goal is to achieve addition/synergy of the therapeutic effect of two or more drugs with different modes of action while using lower doses of the individual components. While no new class of anti-hypertensive drugs has become available in recent years, monotherapy is successful in achieving target blood pressure (BP) levels in only 30% of the hypertensive population. The main reasons for failure to normalize BP levels include inadequate use of combination therapy (fixed combinations in particular) on the one hand, and poor patient compliance on the other. Double and triple combinations of antihypertensive drugs have been shown to be helpful in maintaining metabolic neutrality, reducing the incidence of side effects, and improving patient compliance.
