| Description | The picture gallery in Rájec nad Svitavou Chateau is unique for its size, the number of high-quality artworks and, in particular, for the fact that, unlike most similar historical collections, it has survived almost complete. The detailed catalogue of paintings by Dutch, Italian, French and central European masters from the 16th–19th centuries collected by the members of several generations of the Moravian branch of Altgraves and Counts Salm-Reifferscheidt is supplemented with studies elucidating the history of the family’s art collecting activities and patronage, and it also conveys the family history. The first-ever processing of the complete picture collection of the Rájec chateau is the work of a collective of authors from the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the National Heritage Institute and further institutions. |
