| Description | The article deals with one of the six categories within the traditional classification of Chinese characters. The notion zhishi word for word „indicating“ is part of the categorization which has not been resolved to this time. The paper aims at getting closer to the content of the notion from the historical background as its evolution from the first definition in the dictionary Shuowen jiezi. It introduces and analyzes the deictogram which is a suggested translation of the term according to the Chinese word. The article evaluates Chinese concepts and summarizes the definition of the notion within the categorization as one of the tasks of the science of Chinese grammatology. |
