Citation
Description The study focuses on prosaic works that Rudolf Těsnohlídek dedicated to children and youth: a lyrical short story depicting a harmonious coexistence of children and nature, Čimčirínek a chlapci (1922); an authorial fairy tale, Nové království (1927); and principally the book O zakleté Lúčance (1937). Before writing this kind of “tale of the Tatras," the author was inspired by the discovery of the Slovak Demänovské caves and his own relationship to them. The book is a fantasy account of the origin of the caves, the surrounding mountains and the subterranean Lúčanka river. The text includes attributes of fairy tales, legends and myths that commingle in a rather inorganic way, as well as poetic language that is one of the main qualities of the text. With his prose, Těsnohlídek harks back to his neo-romantic artistic beginnings.
