Description In researching folk clothing, important sources are estate inventories, which also record the personal possessions of the deceased. They include mainly clothing items, but also agricultural or craft workshops or household equipment. In the archives of the Bystřice pod Hostýnem estate (East Moravia), there are estate inventories from 1784 to 1850, on the basis of which it is possible to reconstruct the clothing culture of the various social strata of this formerly serf town, i.e. members of the bourgeois and peasant classes, craftsmen, servants or estate officials. The Bystřice remains to show the diverse clothing of the local class-structured society of the first half of the 19th century, i.e. during the Empire and Biedermeier periods. Stylistic echoes are found in the clothing of craftsmen and estate officials or servants, but the conservative costume of the popular classes tended towards the regional type of clothing of the Haná and Wallachia regions, on whose border Bystřice pod Hostýnem was located.
