Description The surgical castration has been a subject of constant discussion among physicians, lawyers, psychologists, social scientists and philosophers. This issue is often analyzed in scientific studies as well as in reports of international human rights bodies. With regard to the Specific Health Services Act amendment several questions have been raised, that I wish to discuss in this article. First of all, I would like to answer, whether the surgical castration should be considered rather as a treatment of a sexual paraphilia than as a coercive measure in public interest. In this context I am going to answer, whether the castration may be considered as a necessary measure in order to protect other people from patient with sexual disability. Further I wish to answer the question whether current system of psychiatric care is able to ensure that surgical castration will be perform with free and informed consent.
