| Description | In the field of psychotherapy, many approaches for the treatment of psychosomatic disorders have been formulated, which differ in their theory and method. We asked the question of what therapeutic change mechanisms are assumed in these approaches, and whether common change mechanisms can be formulated at a more general level. For this purpose, we performed a qualitative analysis of 87 texts describing the rationale and methods of various psychotherapeutic approaches. The result of the analysis is a set of general categories capturing the intersections, as well as the heterogeneity, of these approaches. These categories will be discussed in the context of a wider literature on common factors in psychotherapy. |
