Description The monograph maps Baťa’s entrepreneurial activities in Central, Central-Eastern,and South-Eastern Europe during the Second World War. With its broad thematic and geographic scope, the analysis aims to encompass and expand the existing research outcomes, which have for the most part been narrowly focused on Zlín, Baťa’s hometown, in Czechoslovakia during the interwar period. The key topics covered include the reconstruction of Baťa’s business model, integration of factories into the war economies of Central European countries, social networks and interpersonal bonds and, last but not least, the impact of war entrepreneurism on social structures of the concern. The complex, varied character of the research made it necessary to choose the approaches used accordingly; thus, the principal methods employed and the related techniques of presenting the research results also vary significantly. The chapters are based thematically, attempting to cover Baťa’s activities in all the countries of the broader Central European region. The issues discussed in the monograph are not strictly limited by the war period, though, as the individual chapters outline the activities started and developed in the interwar period as well. The main aims and objectives of the monography are to provide an understanding of the behaviour of an international company and its staff during an exceptional political and economic crisis (as may be the definition of the Nazi period).
