Description Heart transplantation is an established method of treatment for patients with advanced heart failure. After succsessfull operation the patients are taking the whole life immunosuppression which has adverese effects: hypertension, hyperlipoproteinemia, diabetes mellitus, infections, gastrointestinal and renal disorders and malignities- mainly of skin and hematopoetic origin. During the follow- up it is necessary to exclude rejections and focus on possible interactions of immunosuppression with other drugs. Heart transplantation despite the mentioned complications improves and prolongs lives of patients. One year survival is 84% and 10 years survival exceeds 50%. Main causes of death in the first month are graft failure and multiorgan failure, in the first year infections and in the long term follow-up vasculopathy and malignitis.
