Description The use of authentic materials is one of the alternative ways of developing learners’ communicative scompetence in comparison with the traditional materials offered in textbooks. The article discusses the use of commercial materials as one of the types of authentic materials in the practice of Russian language teaching. The article examines the main approaches to the use of commercials in foreign language classroom, analyses the advantages of its use, and states the main criteria for selecting commercial materials for Russian as a foreign language classes. The article provides the examples of task based on the use of commercials and concludes if using commercials in Russian language teaching is beneficial way to develop key competencies of learners.
