Description Liber primus of De ordine (St. Augustine) contains in its introductory passages a classic theme of admiratio as a motivation for philosophical quest. In our lecture we will put these passages into a wider epistemological context and we will ask: what is the relationship between admiratio, as the beginning of the philosophical reflection (Plato, Theaitétos 155d), and the ordo rerum, which is also the ordo causarum? Is philosophical admiratio really due to what is extra-ordinary or rather to what is common, but at the same time shows the meaning of the order as such?
