Description War is regarded as a negative phenomenon within the Christian religion. However, under certain circumstances, the Church fathers took a different approach and viewed a military conflict from another perspective. Some of them derogated or justified the military or power-seeking activities of the Christian emperors. In the 4th century, the phenomenon of „justified“ war started to strengthen. War became part of the divine plan, especially fighting against the pagans or their opposition. The interpretation of military conflict as the divine punishment for the sinful life of the empire's citizens appeared during the barbarian threat and assaults too.
