Description The problems of environmental sustainability associated with the ndustrialization of agriculture and the consumer society are typical of the recent dynamics of agricultural production. The Valles region is a paradigmatic example of this process and the growth of urban and suburban landscapes at the expense of rural and natural open spaces, with the deterioration of ecological quality. This article explains the evolution of agriculture in the Valles region between 1956 and 2009, i.e. during the period of maximum expansion of agribusiness, and analyzes its landscape and environmental consequences. The changes in land use, the increase in livestock, the fall in the number of farmers and the loss of energy efficiency of industrial agriculture, have led to the disintegration of the agricultural system of the region, and to the loss of circularity in biomass flows. It, concludes that, from an agroecological landscape perspective, the agricultural sector has got worse.
