Description In our contribution we present some of our ideas on current issue that is rising in the Czech Republic. This issue is usually called as hate crime or bias-motivated crime. Hate crime has generally very wide range. It can be targeted against women, sexual minorities, ethnic groups and – last but not least – religious minorities. We have decided to choose one specific area of hate crime that we consider actual in connect with current anti-Islamic temper in part of Czech society. It is hate crime based on Islamic phobia. In our contribution, we provide definition of hate crime and related term hate speech, comment on possible issues of delimitation of these terms, analyse origins of Islamic phobia based hate crime and its specific projections in the Czech Republic. Finally, we present some basic criminological conclusions that might be helpful in order to prevent or to efficiently struggle with this specific type of criminality.
