Description The paper is focused on the ecclesiastical career of Augustine of Litomyšl to whom the historical research so far has dedicated only little attention. Coming from the town of Litomyšl, Augustine entered the Order of St. Augustine and was educated at the Order’s studium in Perugia (1350s). Later, he was appointed prior of the Augustinian monastery of St. Thomas in Brno (ca. 1377) acting also as chaplain to Margrave Jobst of Moravia. In 1388, he set out for Italy in the entourage of the new patriarch of Aquileia, John of Moravia, becoming his key advisor and, subsequently, also bishop of Concordia (1389). In 1392, he was killed by a member of the Savorgnano family with which the patriarch was in conflict. Based on both known and neglected sources, the author attempts to reconstruct the single steps of Augustine’s ecclesiastical career and to shed new light to some of its aspects. In doing so, the principal source is an as yet unknown papal charter of provision for Augustine as new bishop of Concordia whose edition is also appended.
