Description Thanks to the activities of the non-profit sector, the unethical or illegal nature of sexist advertising has been debated in this country for many years. Legally, sexist advertising can be qualified as discriminatory, infringing on dignity or containing other elements such as pornography, violence and fear motives. The interpretation of vague terms such as good morals, discrimination and impairment of dignity in the Advertising Regulation Act is not straightforward, which may affect the effectiveness of penalising sexist advertising. Sexist advertising does not go unnoticed by the authorities, but it is an issue that they deal with rather marginally.
