Description The article presents the scientific activity of Ivan Dorovsky, dealing mainly with Balkan literatures. He emphasizes that literary topics have prevailed in his scientific work since the late 1970s. The author defines several basic tendencies in I. Dorovsky's scientific work: 1. Work on individual Balkan literatures and their reception in the Czech and Slovak cultural environment. 2. Literary lexicographic work, which was reflected in the work of dictionaries of Balkan writers. 3. Above all, however, these are broadly conceived comparative works, in which Dorovský seeks to penetrate the issue of inter-literary communities in the Balkans, compares various stages of development of South Slavic literatures with overlaps into non-Slavic, Balkan or even Mediterranean contexts. Dorovsky thus tries to find common roots of Balkan and especially South Slavic literature and culture. In this way Dorovský trying to find common roots of Balkan and especially South Slavic culture. The author of the study also emphasizes his practical translation work from South Slavic and Greek literature and highlights his poetic talent.
