Description The study summarizing the work of sculptor Martin Skalický, who uses material transformation, experimentation and controlled chance to update and expand the possibilities of figurative sculpture. He combines unusual materials with traditional sculptural methods - he fills the forms of historical sculptures with textiles impregnated with two-component resin, and the originally soft, unformable material with its own history and aesthetic qualities thus, after hardening, takes on and expands the meanings of that historical form. The principle of Skalický's work lies primarily in the interconnection of various opposites and paradoxes. His works combine the past with the present, durability with fragility, beauty with ugliness, serious, existential expression with humour and irony, but also systematic, conceptual work with chance. The result is aesthetically impressive, refined and monumental in expression sculptures with a wide range of meanings.
