Description This chapter presents the regulation of sexual identity in the Czech Republic. It shows that notwithstanding the recent reform of the Civil Code to address the civil status of trans persons, this reform dates from 2012, the possibility of a change in the registered sex still is conditioned on the divorce or cancellation of registered partnership, and gender confirming surgery as well as sterilization. The Constitutional Court failed to examine the petition of an individual who desired to change his sex but not to undergo surgery for not having exhausted available remedies. Parliament has neglected to approve Bills responsive to expert criticisms of the 2012 Civil Code reform.
