Description The aim of my presentation was to demonstrate the way Byzantium is perceived in the two works, to point out the way each author found inspiration in the Byzantine past, to demonstrate how each author perceives Byzantium as a constitutive part of modern Greek identity, to explore the relationship between history and fiction, to discuss the way literature may offer a different perspective to the historical narrative and to the identity formation process.
