Description The chapter of the book is focused on family, family life, and family law in the Czech Republic. Special attention is paid to the various forms of family and family life and their legal background as everybody has the right to choose the way of life according to his or her wishes, needs, preferences, options. That is why the concept of marriage, registered partnership, and de facto cohabitation is discussed. This analysis is followed by the comparison of the rights and duties between family members within the different models of family life. As there are often minor children in families, the subsequent lines are devoted to establishing parenthood, the concept of parental responsibility in the light of the best interest of the child and of the participation rights of the child, and to the family solidarity and support in general. Last, but not least, the civil law provisions against domestic violence are introduced also because of pathologic phenomena in families; they are much more visible these days and the lawmaker does not keep the eyes shut anymore.
