Description European Green Deal is a set of measures with which the European Commission, therefore the European Union, has set a goal to reach carbon neutrality until the 2050 and also has set a goal to transform EU's economy into a sustainable and more ecological form without excessive environmental impacts and increase in usage of natural resources. One of the policy areas is elimination of pollution. This means, among others, reaching the goal of zero ambient air pollution. European Commission has a plan to adopt Action Plan for Zero Pollution with a goal to decrease current air pollution levels and also prevent any new emissions of pollutants into the ambient air. It is an extend and ambitious plan concerning revision of legal acts and technical standards in the area of ambient air quality, which has already begun to be implemented. Its goal is to unify air quality thresholds with WHO's health protection thresholds. Another ambition is decentralization of the pollution reduction agenda down to the local governments. The idea is that local air pollution reduction will lead to areal effect in increase of the ambient air quality. This issue is closely linked to the industry. The goal here is very clear - to continue in reduction of admissible level of pollutants emitted from industrial installations. The relevant secondary acts shall be revised along with accompanying technical regulations (BREFs, BATs). Other than legislative impacts and revisions, the European Commission will significantly rely on financial measures. Basic principles of financial mechanisms concerned in this agenda are described in so-called Just Transition Mechanism. The main sources of finances shall be Just Transition Fund and Modernization Fund. The goal that has been set for this contribution is to take a closer look at the goals and ambitions of the European Commission in the area of Ambient Air Quality focusing on the goal of zero pollution and even more extensive greening of the industry. These goals shall be meet with legal measures as well as financial measures arising from public finances. These measures shall be hereby analysed and shall undergo critical reflexion along with the set-up goals. This process shall point out which of the goals are close to unreal or too ambitious with regard to the conditions valid in the Czech Republic.
