Description Nowadays we are witnessing a significant loss of biodiversity in our landscape. Species that were quite common, ubiquitous and, until recently, received little scientific attention have become endangered. The most threatened species today are those that have been adapted to less intensive agriculture in the past, those that live in aquatic environments and those that are tied to natural forests with dead wood, forest grazing or coppicing. An example is the class of insects (insecta) of the phylum Arthropoda. The article focuses on individual hypotheses concerning the issue of insect decline, i.e. whether insects are sufficiently protected against the effects of intensive agriculture (Act No. 326/2004 Coll., on plant health care), inappropriate forest management consisting in the predominance of spruce monocultures (Act No. 289/1995 Coll., on forests) and at the same time the loss of suitable habitats such as meadows and copses or the implementation of inappropriate interventions in the landscape (Act No. 114/1992 Coll., on the nature and landscape protection). The assessment of the causes will be carried out on the basis of predetermined criteria, whereby the existing situation will first be established, i.e. existing monitoring and current statistics will be examined, while current conceptual tools will be analysed. Attention will then be paid to national legislation, i.e. how it seeks to prevent insect declines, in particular whether greater attention is paid to certain genera, families or superfamilies. Based on an assessment of this regulation, de lege ferenda steps will be proposed.
