Video research of interaction in outdoor education: a systematic review

| Description | Video research is important for the development of understanding outdoor education. Interactions between teachers – students – the environment are the cornerstone of outdoor education. We recorded mentioned relation using a camera, and the video may examine repeatedly. Effective outdoor education can also improve in social skills (Oost et al., 2011) and relationships with the environment. This systematic review maps the current situation in this said area. The aims of this research are (1) to describe what do we know about video research of interaction in outdoor education and (2) to identify blind spots to point to future research directions. We used the Web of Science and Scopus database for this research and selected studies from 2000– 2021 in English. We found 444 articles from both databases. Irrelevant articles removed by the criteria: (1) eliminate duplicate papers, (2) place only empirical works, and (3) papers must meet the requirements of a topic. This process left twenty-four regular articles after critical reading. The study summarizes findings in three areas: (1) there is a shortage of video research of interaction in outdoor education; (2) they did not unify the methodology of recording with cameras in outdoor education. Half of the papers did not have a precisely defined recording process with the camera. (3) Researchers hardly follow interactions between teachers – students – the environment. Only three papers describe teacher or students' interaction with the environment marginally. |
