Description In the colonization process that took place in the 18th–19th centuries in the Danube-Pannonian plain after the defeat of the Ottoman armies (1683) and their expulsion from the Habsburg monarchy (1699), in addition to the settlements that were established on the estates of the nobility, a special category was represented by the so-called frontier settlements, the founders of which were the court of the royal court. Those settlements were located in a continuous chain along the Military Frontier drawn in 1702 between the Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire. A special frontier status, which stimulated that the way of life in these settlements differed in several peculiarities from the standard of life of the colonists in the localities on the noble estates. The paper notes these peculiarities of frontiersmen›s life. Their naming and analysis of those can contribute to the exploratory purposes of this conference.
