Description An integral part of the complex treatment of breast tumors, the most common malignancy in women, is surgical treatment. It requires a multidisciplinary approach including, in addition to the care of a surgeon, gynecologist, oncologist and radiotherapist, as well as cooperation with a plastic surgeon, geneticist, endocrinologist and clinical psychologist. When deciding on the extent of surgical treatment, the patient's age, stage of the disease, and individual patient preferences must be taken into account. Breast tumors include genetically and prognostically different diseases. The type and extent of malignancy, tolerability of antitumor treatment and other internal diseases are significant. There is no consensus as to what constitutes the best surgical treatment for primary breast cancer in BRCA mutation carriers. Surgery for invasive breast cancer is the primary treatment method and, according to radicality, it is divided into (1) conservative - breast-conserving (preserving) operations and (2) radical operations including various types of mastectomy. The importance of axillary lymphadenectomy, preventive surgeries and new breast reconstruction techniques in oncoplastic surgery is increasing.
