Description On the first reading evening, Dr Klara Hübner briefly introduced the concept and historical characteristics of infrastructure. Then the focus was on the construction of the railway around Lake Walen. At that time, the route around Weesen was particularly controversial: While the Südostbahn at the time had planned a line on the left side of the Linth Canal, the canton of St. Gallen insisted that the railway line had to follow the foot of the slope in order to be able to place the station near the small town. In the directorate's letter to the Small Council of the Canton of St.Gallen, the railway company tried to convince the government of the disadvantages of this alignment, after an expert opinion had also confirmed this alignment. The St. Gallen government remained firm and demanded the "diversions" via Weesen. It was not until the construction of the new Kerenzerberg railway tunnel (1961) and the routing along the motorway (1969) that the old railway line and the station in Weesen were moved to their present location.
