Description The paper presents the authors’ experience of implementing changes in the education of future geography teachers. The paper describes conceptual approach in geography education that served as an ideological inspiration for implementing critical changes in geography teacher education at Faculty of Education, Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia. We then outline the ten pillars of teacher competency that have emerged from bringing the conceptual approach to the interdisciplinary level. We conclude by pointing out that successful implementation of the conceptual approach through the ten pillars of teacher competency entails the need for a fundamental conceptual change, especially in the thinking and actions of educators of future teachers.
