Description One possibility for the design of new drugs is inspiration from natural compounds5 with multiple activities,6 for example, cinnamic or salicylic acid derivatives. By modifying the scaffolds of such compounds, molecules with a wide spectrum of action can be obtained, and thus it is advantageous to use them for the design of multi-target anti-invasive agents. Recently, new anilides structurally derived from hydroxyarylcarboxylic acids and their carbamates have been designed, which showed strong bactericidal activity against drug-resistant clinical isolates of Gram-positive bacteria as well as activity against mycobacteria. These small molecules will be discussed within this contribution.
