Citation
Description Doc. JUDr. Zdeněk Kratochvíl (1922–2012), a state official, legislator and university lecturer, was fundamentally professionally and scientifically devoted to the implementation of the new concept of socialist civil law and other issues related to the implementation of the so-called consolidation of socialist legality and the people judiciary according to the requirements of the XII Congress of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in 1962. The highlight of his career was his tenure as Deputy Minister of Justice from 1963 to 1969 when he was substantially involved in the legislative work on the new Civil Code, the Family Law and the Civil Procedure Code. His career as an expert in socialist civil law and an unquestioned agitated communist with an exemplary cadre profile was soon affected by the period of normalisation when he was forced to retire to the sidelines and spend the rest of his working life in a less important position. This fate may also have been a motivation for his expressing his disapproval of the trials and abuses of judicial power, not only in the trial with the members of the group The Plastic People of the Universe.
