Description One of the progressive steps towards a fully unified capital market in the European Union is the practical application of the European passport for management companies. The introduction of the European passport prevents regulatory arbitrage, which naturally entails a high degree of regulatory harmonisation. Harmonised rules in the form of directives for cross-border management will need to be taken into account by Member States and regu- lated nationally to avoid undesirable effects arising from divergent natio- nal implementation of European rules. Cross-border management is based on the European passport and offers management companies great opportunities to develop their activities. The purpose of this article is to provide a more detailed view of the European passport in its specific part, namely the regulation of collective portfolio management on a cross-border basis.
