Citation
Description Food, not only in its nutritional composition but also in its enjoyment, contributes to the quality of life (not only) in old age. Care homes represent a specific place from the point of view of eating. While in their own homes people decide on their own menus and meal times, in the care home everything is subject to a uniform order. The care homes themselves are regulated by a number of public health regulations, the capacity of their staff, preconceptions about the diet suitable for older people, etc. Our presentation is based on analysing available information on the form and organisation of meals in care homes. We observe how meals are regulated. How autonomy in diet is enabled and promoted. What importance is attached to the catering facility and its setting? Moreover, meals, although important in themselves, illustrate the differences that the daily life of older people in care homes is subjected to compared to life in the home.
