Description Even in today's globalized world, there are still places that are completely unspoiled by mass tourism. And in them, treasures that are forbidden to the ordinary mortal eye to see. However fanciful it may sound, Svanetia is just such a place. A Georgian region, guarded against the (aggressive) advances of Western civilization by a wall of high mountains, but also by ancient family clans that have been passing down the keys to their churches and protecting the jewels hidden inside for centuries. So successfully that they have escaped not only the imperial policies of the Soviet Union but, until recently, the attention of academia. Art historian Ivan Foletti and archaeologist Jiří Macháček talk about the fragile treasures hidden in this region, its golden and silver objects, and its muddy high mountain roads in the 38th episode of our podcast.
