Citation
Description This paper addresses the question of normativity vs. reality clash through a study conducted in the Czech Republic, drawing on at least twenty semi-structured interviews with journalists and managers working for Czech public service media (i.e. Czech Television or Czech Radio). The aim of the research was to find out how journalists and managers themselves see the value of PSM in today's world, what are their opinions of the PSM's current performance in the context of normative ideals, and what they see as the main opportunities and threats in the near future. In our paper, we focus on how our communication partners described and explained their own conceptualizations and perceptions of identities (PSM but also audiences), values, and roles that emerge in the context of public service media. All that to explore how their perceptions (personal experiences, biases, etc.) differ from normative expectations defined by existing legal and academic frameworks.
