Description Earthenware occupied an important place in the ceramic production of nineteenth-century Moravia, both from a cultural and historical perspective, as well as from an economic point of view. This publication provides an overview of earthenware production in Moravia, the beginnings of which are associated with the manufactory in Bystřice po Hostýnem. After its closure, earthenware was produced by several enterprises in Hostýnské vrchy and Kopřivnice. An important production centre developed in the Znojmo area where the source of the basic raw material, white clay, was located. Int the mid-nineteenth century, a factory was founded in Olomučany near Blansko, which was a leading producer of both stylized and “rural” earthenware. The present publication is a synthesis that has been missing in the expert literature to date. The pictorial documentation and identification of the products will be of interest to both museum employees and those interested in the history of ceramic production in Moravia.
